Write for us
Southern Film Review welcomes pitches that bring a distinct, well-supported point of view to films connected with the American South. Send proposals through the Contact page, not as a finished article.
What we welcome
We are interested in considered writing on regional stories, film history, independent production, screen language and film culture. A contribution might examine one carefully chosen film, explain a useful context, or make a clear comparison that opens up a fresh way to watch.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the central question, the films or materials you would discuss, why the subject belongs here and what your piece would help readers notice. A focused proposal is more useful than a broad topic or a finished draft. Explain how your claims can be checked, and identify any relevant personal or commercial connection.
Submitting and editing
Send your proposal through the Contact page using the editorial question option. Do not include confidential material. We may ask for clarification or revisions, and publication is not guaranteed. We do not invent contributor credentials, and any agreed terms or disclosures are settled before publication.
A place is more than a backdrop
Films can show how a region is imagined, remembered and questioned. We read those choices closely without treating any single film as the whole story.
